DESIGN INSPIRATION

There is an enormous question being carried by contemporary design; how to harness and transform into shape the rhythm and landscape of modern life.

For me square and its primitive, rigid discipline represents everything that confines us - the grid of city blocks, the relentless repetition of the underground railway, the beating of iron and steel, the layouts of phone apps, keyboards, weave of cotton fibers in our shirts. All of it builds a complex fabric which became my tool and my inspiration.

Stacking of rectangles into three-dimensional cubes and building from these an elegant, strong body, felt similar to erecting a towering cathedral from units of a small brick. As I walk around (our table) I observe the same changes seen during the procession through a church. The cross beams cascade like the steps before a roman temple - I’ve arrived at the entrance. As I go the graceful flow of columns that open and collapse on each other, invites me explore the spaces within. The glittering light reflecting from 1056 facets offers my journey a sense of lavish luxury. The windows align into tunnels with rhythmic appearance. At the diagonal view, with austere elegance, the horizontal pilasters morph into sculpted terraces.

With every pace I find a new image; sometimes a forrest, a colonnade, a coffered ceiling…
